Sunday Child Care

Teens and adults

Care for toddlers and preschool children during the 9:00 and 11:00 Masses.  Ongoing • Time commitment: 1½ hours before, during and after Mass • Must be VIRTUS certified • Should be experienced in caring for multiple children.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CATECHIST SHARING GOD’S STORY

Confirmed parishioners

Work as a team of two to lead Sharing God’s Word prayer, Bible story and activities for children age 4 and in Kindergarten using material provided.  Ongoing Activity • One Sunday a month • October—April • Time commitment is first 30 minutes of the 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. Mass • Skills required: Be open to sharing faith experiences.  All adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUS training, complete a background check, and sign a yearly Code of Conduct • No experience required.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CATECHIST CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD

Confirmed parishioners

Work as a team of two to lead Children’s Liturgy of the Word to children in first through fourth grade using materials provided. The children participate in Children’s Liturgy of the Word while their parents participate in Liturgy of the Word during Mass.  The readings are the same Bible verses, but sometimes adapted to the children’s level.  The “homily” is a prepared presentation of the theme at the children’s level. Age appropriate questions are then offered for discussion. The session opens and closes with prayer.  Ongoing Activity • One Sunday a month • October—April • Time commitment is first 30 minutes of the 9:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. Mass • Skills required: Be open to sharing faith experiences.  All adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUS training, complete a background check, and sign a yearly Code of Conduct • No experience required.

FAITH FORMATION EVENT PLANNING

BE A CATECHIST

GRADE 1-5 

Confirmed Parishioners

Our valued volunteer catechists work with the Director of Faith Formation in the formation of the young people in our parish.  Two catechists are assigned to each group.  Special sessions and holiday breaks replace some of the faith formation sessions, leaving one or two sessions per month for each catechist to prepare over a seven-month period.  Catechists are provided a guide for all the sessions, two training sessions per year and other resources.  Ongoing Activity • Two to three times per month • One year commitment • Time commitment is October—April • Skills required: be open to sharing faith experiences. All adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUS training, complete a background check, and sign a yearly Code of Conduct agreement. • No experience required.

GRADE 1-5 GOOD SHEPHERD SPECIAL SESSIONS

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd assists the child in having an experience of God through Montessori style, contemplative activities with materials of Scripture, liturgy, and sacraments. Trained Good Shepherd or Godly Play catechists are sought. Certified training provided for those who will make a minimum of a three-year commitment.  Ongoing Activity • One year commitment if already trained, three year if training is needed• Time commitment varies depending on schedule • Skills required: be open to sharing faith experiences. Trained in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd or Godly Play. All adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUS training, complete a background check, and sign a yearly Code of Conduct agreement. • No experience required.

GRADE 6-8

Our valued volunteer catechists work with the Director of Faith Formation for MS/HS in the formation of the young people in our parish.  Two catechists are assigned to each group.  With large group activities and holiday breaks, each catechist prepares one or two lessons per month over a seven month period.  Catechists are provided detailed lesson plans, two training sessions per year and other resources Ongoing Activity • Once per month • One year commitment • Time commitment is October—May • Skills required: be open to sharing faith experiences. All adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUS training, complete a background check, and sign a yearly Code of Conduct agreement. • No experience required.

CONFIRMATION

Confirmed Parishioners

Our valued volunteer catechists work with the Director of Faith Formation MS/HS in the formation of the teen youth in our parish.  Two catechists are assigned to each group.  Confirmation starts in 9th grade and includes two years of participation in preparation sessions. Ongoing Activity • Two to three sessions per month • Two year commitment • Time commitment is September—May of 2nd year (some summer events 1st year) • Skills required: be open to sharing faith experiences. All adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUS training, complete background check, and a yearly code of conduct. • No experience required.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION

Confirmed Parishioners

Various preparation tasks needed for coordinating all sacramental activities (First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation). Facilitate a station for parent/child events, prepare materials  (such as photocopying or cutting), welcome and register attendees, and more.  Ongoing Activity •  All year long • As events occur •Skills required: simple skills based on activity • No experience required.

FIRST RECONCILIATION CELEBRATION

Teenagers • Adults

To work as a team that sets up and cleans church for the First Reconciliation ceremony as well as helping organize the ceremony and acting as greeters or providing hospitality.  Single Event • November • One event commitment • Skills required: willingness to help young families • No experience required.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

STATION LEADER

Teenagers • Adults

A week-long, morning program in July for children, grades K-5, which provides fun-filled learning about God through Bible drama, crafts, games, snacks, videos and songs.  Lead one of these stations Monday through Friday.  Single Event • Last week of July • One time commitment • Skills required: Be open to sharing faith experiences.  All adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUS training, complete a background check, and sign a yearly Code of Conduct agreement• No experience required.

CREW (GROUP) LEADER

Entering grade 6 and up through adult

A week-long, morning program in July for children, grades K-5, which provides fun-filled learning about God through Bible stories, crafts, games, videos and songs.  Guide a “crew” or group of 5-7 children to their VBS stations throughout the week. Single Event • Last week of July • One-time commitment • Skills required: Be open to sharing faith experiences.  All adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUS training, complete a background check, and sign a yearly Code of Conduct agreement• No experience required.

DRAMA TEAM

A week-long morning program in July for children, grades K-5 that provides fun-filled learning about God through Bible stories, crafts, games, videos and songs.  Perform skits, lead songs/movements with CD theme songs, open and close each day.  Single Event • Last week of July • One year commitment • Skills required: Be open to sharing faith experiences.  All adult volunteers are required to go through VIRTUS training, complete a background check, and sign a yearly Code of Conduct • No experience required.
