IN THE MIDST OF STRESS AND ANXIETY


God longs to heal us and renew us in these difficult times. The greater our responsibilities, the deeper is our need for sustenance.

Jesus filled the nets of his disciples, built a fire on the beach and warmed them, cooked and served them breakfast before he sent them out to feed the hungers of the world (John 21).

Here are some suggested ways by which we can be fed by God at a deep level. We each respond to God's love in unique ways, so we may find some of these suggestions more helpful than others.     LINK TO WEBSITE

A GENTLE WAY TO PRAY

In his Spiritual Exercises, Ignatius urged that all be taught the Examen, a daily prayerful reflection on our responses to the events of the day. The purpose of this reflection was to see God's presence and to discern God’s direction for us. Ignatius believed that the key to a healthy spirituality is to find God in all things and to work constantly to cooperate with God’s will.

St. Ignatius believed that God speaks to us in both our consolation (the good times in our lives) and our desolation (the challenging times of our lives).

FR. HENRI NOUWEN
Beloved author, Theologian, professor, psychologist.
 

Who was Henri Nouwen?

A Spiritual Master for Our Times

Henri Nouwen was a Dutch-born Catholic priest, professor, psychologist and prolific writer. He taught psychology at the University of Notre Dame and pastoral theology at the Divinity Schools of Yale and Harvard before leaving academia to become the pastor at L’Arche Daybreak, a community for people with intellectual disabilities. A master communicator, Nouwen wrote and spoke with great openness and vulnerability about faith, spiritual formation, prayer, social justice, and other themes related to the spiritual life. He wrote thirty-nine books that sold over one million copies in his lifetime and were translated into more than thirty-five languages. Today, book sales have surpassed seven million copies. Books drawn from Nouwen’s archives continue to be published. Nouwen died unexpectedly of a heart attack in 1996. He was 64 years old.

FR. GREG BOYLE
To kick-off Mission Week 2019, Creighton University (Omaha, NE) invited Fr. Greg Boyle, SJ, to provide a keynote address.  Fr. Boyle founded Homeboy Industries, the largest gang-intervention, rehabilitation, and re-entry program in the world.  Fr. Boyle has also authored several books, Tattoos on the Heart and Barking to the Choir.
